Hammerfest Bordeaux Trip
A busy month on the Jungulator band front...
Here be some explanatory guff, if your interest be piqued......first, we got a freak wave of bookings in and around Bordeaux:
...then more dates got added and it turned into a mini-tour thingy......the first leg involved everyone flying to Bordeaux to do a handful of band gigs and DJ/VJ stuff:
as well as a bizarre open air gig featuring the jungulator eurobots in the Place Pey Berland as part of the fete d'Europe...an obligation, due to us being 'musical ambassadors' (Bristol's twinned with Bordeaux y'see, and European money was paying for us to be out there):
...completely ridiculous, I think you'll agree...but it went down well, the eurobots were invited to meet the mayor, and disgraced themselves, as is their way:
...then it was back to Bristol and straight into rehearsals for the second leg, (centred around a silent film re-imagining/re-score project called Hammerfest, with author Stephen Ireland...to be performed at Rock School Barbey as part of the Cine Jean Vigo Spring re-score programme). on this leg we took the Plymouth-to-Santander ferry and worked our way up the North Spanish coast into France:
...we travelled in 'the beast', an ex-diplomatic Mercedes with bullet-proof windows:
...we stopped overnight at places along the way, ever hopeful of a chance to plug in and play for food and drink (Basque anarchist bars in the mountains, coastal fishing towns, and so on):
...stopping also to take in the weirdness of the majestic Dune Du Pyla:
...finally arriving in Bordeaux:
...two days of rehearsals, fine-tuning, etc:
...then the performance itself:
Here's a snippet from the mixing desk, and a couple of murky Hammerfest clips
...and here's a photostream of the whole self-mythologising affair, like you actually need any more IATMJ in your lives...
Back in Bristol, we did Hammerfest again, this time at the Arnolfini, as part of the Venn festival...
All good fun...
